Drivers and teams with the superb machines from the GT3 and GT4 categories will be invited to join the SPEED Sports Prototype 3 hour race at Silverstone on 10th October to create a mini Le Mans event and form the largest SPEED grid of the year for the final event of this season.
As the SPEED Series 2009 draws to a close, organisers are examining format changes for the UK’s leading endurance racing series. As well as creating a class for older, EP3 engined CN sports proto cars, the introduction of GT3 and GT4 cars at Silverstone will give SPEED organisers a guide as to potential changes for the 2010 season.
Oli McCrudden, SPEED Organiser: “We’re contacting as many GT3/4 teams as we can to extend the invitation to them to join up at Silverstone. We ran with a Chad Racing Kia Silhouette at the Snetterton 6 hours and any reservations about having such cars on the grid were quickly expelled. In terms of excitement, participation and from a marketing angle, creating a SPEED ‘Le Mans Lite’ style event is something we are exploring.”
